...But is it Waterproof?
One of the many asked questions when looking for flooring is, “Is it waterproof?” Waterproof flooring is becoming more and more important to homeowners. Water proof is not the same as water resistant. Waterproof means that no matter how long the water sits on the surface it will not damage the floor. Water resistant means it will eventually get soaked into the floor.
Vinyl is waterproof! If you are looking for a floor for a high moisture area vinyl is a great idea.
Laminate is water resistant but not waterproof. Hopefully in the up coming years we will see a laminate that is truly waterproof and can compete with vinyl.
Carpet! Believe it or not you can now get waterproof carpet. Shaw changed the game with LifeGuard®. One retailer even built a pool with the carpet and put 25,000 pounds of water in it.
Solid hardwood is beautiful, but it is not waterproof.
