Solid Hard vs Engineered Wood

Many consumers are not aware of the different between solid hardwood and engineered wood flooring. Although one option is not better than the other, one might be better for your lifestyle.

Solid hardwood is just as its name says, it is solid hardwood from top to bottom. Engineered wood is a layered floor with a thin, real hardwood top and a high-quality plywood under. Many people think that engineered wood is not real hardwood, but it is.

Engineered holds up better against moisture than solid. Solid hardwood is not recommended for bathrooms, basements or other rooms that have a lot of moisture. Hardwood can be installed in the kitchen as long as a waterproof mat is laid by the sink and dishwasher. Engineered hardwood has the plywood base which means that it wraps and flexes less easily upon contact with moisture.

Both floorings are beautiful and can add value to your home.
