Mapei Ultralite Mortar Premium Lightweight Polymer-Modified Mortar

Ultralite Mortar is a premium-grade, lightweight, single-component thin-set mortar that also handles large-and-heavy-tile (formerly called "medium bed") and nonsag applications. Ultralite Technology delivers twice the coverage of a standard thin-set mortar per pound — a 25 lb. bag provides the same coverage as a 50 lb. bag of traditional mortar. Half the weight to carry around the jobsite, same coverage on the wall or floor.

Polymer-enriched for high performance and deformability, with Easy Glide Technology for smooth application and BioBlock technology for mold and mildew resistance. Contains more than 20% recycled content and may contribute to LEED points.

Approved for most interior/exterior commercial floor and wall installations, ceramic and porcelain tile, quarry tile, pavers, Saltillo tile, and most marble, granite, and natural stone. Also works over cured concrete, masonry, cement mortar beds, exterior-grade plywood (interior, residential, and light-commercial dry areas only), properly prepared VCT and vinyl/cutback residue, existing ceramic/porcelain tile and quarry tile, and Mapei waterproofing, crack-isolation, sound-reduction, and uncoupling membranes.

How is this different from Ultralite Mortar Pro? Both use Ultralite Technology for 2x coverage per pound. Ultralite Mortar Pro is available in white or gray; standard Ultralite Mortar comes in a universal color blend. Check the specific technical data sheet for any performance differences on your project.

Can I use it over plywood? Yes, over APA Group 1 or CANPLY 0121 exterior-grade plywood — but only for interior, residential, and light-commercial floors and countertops in dry conditions.

How soon can I grout? Wait 24 to 48 hours minimum before grouting or allowing light traffic.

Does it work over existing tile? Yes — over properly prepared existing ceramic, porcelain, quarry tile, or pavers, interior use only.
