Mapei Ultraflex 1 Mortar
Mapei Ultraflex 1 Standard Polymer-Modified Thin-Set Mortar — 50 lb.
Mapei Ultraflex 1 is a standard-grade, single-component, polymer-modified thin-set mortar for most interior and exterior installations of tile. It has an above-average content of unique dry polymer, resulting in good adhesion to both substrate and tile.
It can be used for both interior and exterior installations in most residential floor and wall applications. In commercial applications, it's suited for interior floor and wall installations and exterior floors. Mix with water only — no latex additive needed. Ultraflex 1 meets or exceeds ANSI A118.4E and ANSI A118.11 requirements when mixed with water.
Easy Glide Technology gives it a smooth, creamy consistency that makes troweling fast and easy. Compatible with ceramic, porcelain, quarry tile, pavers, Saltillo tile, most marble, granite, and natural stone. Available in gray and white — use white under light-colored or translucent tile.

What's the difference between Ultraflex 1 and Ultraflex 2? Ultraflex 1 is standard-grade — the reliable everyday mortar for most residential and interior commercial tile installs. Ultraflex 2 is professional-grade with higher performance specs, suited for more demanding applications like large-format tile, exterior commercial walls, and higher-stress environments.
Do I need to add latex or an admixture? No. Ultraflex 1 is polymer-modified straight from the bag — mix with water only.
Is it approved for plywood substrates? Yes — meets ANSI A118.11 for use over exterior-grade plywood in interior dry areas.
Can it be used outdoors? Yes for most residential exterior applications and commercial exterior floors. For exterior commercial walls, Mapei recommends the Kerabond/Keralastic or Granirapid systems instead.
What tile types does it work with? Ceramic, porcelain, quarry tile, pavers, Saltillo tile, dimensional stone, marble, granite, and most natural stone.
Which color should I use — gray or white? White under light-colored stone, translucent marble, or light-bodied tile where gray could show through joints. Gray for most everything else.
Is it suitable for large-format tile? No — for large-format and heavy tile, use Ultraflex LHT or Ultraflex 2, which are engineered for the added weight and surface area of oversized formats.
What ANSI standard does it meet? Meets or exceeds ANSI A118.4E and ANSI A118.11 when mixed with water. ISO 13007 classification C2E.
