Tile and stone products are fragile, and it is normal to have some broken pieces during transit. You may receive up to 5% broken pieces. Please figure this potential breakage into your waste calculation.
Tile Collection Cottage Sand 3x6 Field Tile Matte
Cottage Sand is a porcelain brick tile made to look like old, sun-faded terracotta. The warm sand tone is washed and shaded so the pieces vary from one to the next, and the edges have a soft, handmade look. It brings the feel of a country kitchen or farmhouse bath without the upkeep of real clay.
Under the rustic surface it's dense porcelain, with water absorption of 0.5% or less. It's frost resistant and rated for floors and walls, inside or out, so it works on a kitchen floor, mudroom, laundry, backsplash, or covered patio. The matte finish has a DCOF of 0.69, which gives good grip underfoot.
The tile is nominally 3x6 but actually 2.76" x 5.51" (7 x 14 cm), 8.5 mm thick. It has moderate shade variation (V3), so pull from several cartons at once and dry-lay before setting. Use a modified thinset rated for porcelain. The manufacturer recommends about a 1/16" (2 mm) grout joint for the handmade look.
Cottage also comes in a 5.5" x 6.3" hexagon in the same five colors (Sand, Cotto, White, Grey, Graphite), so you can pair the brick on the wall with the hex on the floor.

Is this real terracotta?
No. It's porcelain made to look like aged terracotta. You get the clay look without the sealing, staining, and moisture problems of real clay.
How much do the pieces vary?
Moderately. It's rated V3, so expect noticeable tone shifts from piece to piece. Blend from several cartons and dry-lay before setting.
Can I use it outdoors?
Yes. It's frost resistant and rated for exterior floors and walls. Use an exterior-rated setting material and follow TCNA guidelines.
How many cartons do I need for a 40 Sq. Ft. backsplash?
At 5.27 Sq. Ft. per carton, 40 Sq. Ft. takes 8 cartons. Add 10–15% for cuts and blending, so order 9 or 10.
What size grout joint looks best?
A tight joint, about 1/16", keeps the handmade brick look. Don't butt-joint it. The pieces have slight size variation, and the joint absorbs that.
