Cottage Sand brings the look of old, sun-faded terracotta to a porcelain hexagon. The Sand color is a soft, whitewashed beige with the worn, uneven tone of clay tile that's been around for decades, and no two pieces look quite the same. It works in farmhouse kitchens, mudrooms, bathrooms, and covered patios.

It's made in Spain from dry-pressed porcelain with very low water absorption, so it's rated for interior and exterior floors and walls. The matte surface has a DCOF above 0.42, which meets the standard for level interior floors that get wet. It's frost resistant, so it can go outside in cold climates.

The hexagon is sold as a nominal 6x6. Actual size is 5.5" x 6.3", about 5/16" thick. Shade variation is high on purpose: tones are mixed randomly in each carton. Pull from several cartons at once while you install, and lay out a section dry before you set it so you can balance light and dark pieces.

The manufacturer recommends a narrow 2 mm (about 1/16") grout joint and does not recommend butting the tiles together with no joint. Use a thinset and grout suited to the space. Traditional mortar beds aren't recommended.

Why does the color change so much from tile to tile?
That's the design. Cottage is made to look like aged terracotta, so each carton holds a random mix of lighter and darker pieces. Mix from several cartons as you go for an even spread.

Is it really 6x6?
6x6 is the nominal size. The tile measures 5.5" across the flats and 6.3" point to point.

Can I use it outdoors?
Yes. It's porcelain with very low water absorption and passes frost resistance testing, so it works on patios and exterior walls.

Is it slippery when wet?
The matte surface has a DCOF above 0.42 and an R10 rating, which is suitable for interior floors that get wet, like bathrooms and kitchens.

What grout joint should I use?
About 1/16" (2 mm). Pieces can vary slightly in size, so don't install it with no joint at all.

How much should I order?
Each carton covers 4.68 Sq. Ft. Hexagons create cuts at the edges, so add 10–15% for waste and to give you room to pick and blend shades.
