Dos and Don’ts: Vinyl Floor Cleaning

Every floor is a little different when it comes to cleaning and maintaining the natural beauty. Follow the dos and don’ts to keep your vinyl floor looking its best.

Do not use abrasive cleaners or detergents.  This type of product can leave a film on your floor.

Do not use a wax polish or solvent-base polishes.

Do not use a scrubbing tool. This can scratch your floor.

Do not use rolling casters. They can ruin the surface of your vinyl floor. Instead try using chairs that have felt tips.

Do not use a beater bar when you are vacuum. This can ruin the surface of your floor.

Do wipe up any spills as soon as possible. This will help reduce the risk of permanently staining the vinyl.

Do use a doormat to help protect your floor. The dirt from your shoes can act as sandpaper and overtime ruin the finish on your vinyl.

Do wash your floor with a neutral cleaner.

Bleached Wood

Not a big fan of the darker wood tones? That is okay. Look into a bleached wood. Bleaching involves applying a chemical solution onto the surface of the wood to remove the artificial dye or stain of the wood. Bleaching will give the wood an ashy-white washed look to the natural wood grain.

Fumed Wood

Fumed wood flooring gets its beautiful color without staining. Fuming involves putting the wood in a chamber where airborne ammonia is released. The wood reacts with the ammonia and changes the color. The fuming normally gives the wood a rich dark tone and will enhance the natural grain of the wood. We will be seeing more fumed wood in 2019.
